Stepping out of comfort zones has always been a challenge for everyone. Trying to venture out into the unknown brings a daunting experience and for many, dependency has always been plan A, B and C – no one wants to ever step out of their comfort zone. The sense of safety brings calmness and tranquility yet deep down inside embarrassment ensues due to the uncomfortability one experiences. The truth is, feeling uncomfortable when trying new things has always been okay – you just need to adjust to it!
Stepping outside of the comfort zone to tackle your fears always brings a sense of vulnerability. With time, what were once fears won’t scare you anymoreYour eyes will be opened, perspective broadened. Being oblivious to eliminating your fears and jumping to assumptions immediately only strikes a greater sense of fright. If you don’t try exploring now, you will only grow more fearful of the thought. If you don’t face your fears now, when will you overcome them? Overcoming your fears will make you stronger both mentally and physically. Challenging your fears can even boost your own self-esteem. Go out and test your fears and overcome them as you will become a better person at the end of the day.
Stepping out of your comfort zone doesn’t entirely mean to challenge your fears. It can include things that are rather foreign to you, such as trying a new sport. Even though finding the motivation to do things you do not normally do may be a challenge, it becomes worth it. The challenges ahead bring the good type of stress, knowing that it is for your own benefit. Once you do so, everything will become easier for you. Not necessarily because it will be useful in everyday life, but because of the boost in your own self-confidence. Sooner or later, what was once a fear would become a lingering thought in your mind that you can look back and laugh at.
One of the best examples is when learning how to swim. Everyone has had that fear of drowning embedded into their brains when first touching the water of the pool. However, as time passes and when one gets used to it, it becomes a whole new hobby to enjoy. For me personally, I was so scared of learning how to swim I would always cry. However, looking back, it’s something I just laugh at!
When looking for any challenges ahead, do not see it as an obligation to overcome it but rather as a challenge that will make you a better person. See it as an opportunity for your own personal growth. Seek discomfort, because feeling uncomfortable will always be a normal circumstance with everything new you do in your own will. After all, the way you initially react to uncertainty is just temporary, but the way you adapt to uncertainty is forever.
